Flour Power In Manila

Meet the umami-packed pizza in this Philippines’’ outlet of Plank Sourdough Pizza.

The whiff of freshly-baked pizzas load your senses as you walk through the doors of Plank Sourdough Pizza, a restaurant that successfully opened its first Philippines store at the sprawling Mall of Asia – the 11th biggest mall in the world located by the famed Manila Bay.

It’s been over a year since Plank’s launch in Manila and local foodies are still hankering for its pizzas. And with good reason. Plank’s specialty is the sourdough bread, a signature recipe created by Global Baker and Plank Founder Dean Brettschneider.

Handcrafted from a combination of flours and fermented for up to 48 hours with natural wild yeast called “levain”, salt, water and extra virgin olive oil, the dough is an authentic artisan approach to making good, honest food with passion as the main ingredient. This bread is then topped off with absolutely delicious toppings. The Truffle Mushroom Pizza, for instance, is slathered with a creamy white sauce, cheeses and mushrooms, then drizzled with truffle oil to take its taste from fine to sublime – a real mushroom-lover’s treat. No wonder its number one!

To add variety and spice up its pizza line, Plank recently introduced its take on Onomiyaki Pizza with all the trimmings that make it truly Japanese – mozzarella, sharp cheddar, shredded cabbage, onions, crabsticks, bacon, Japanese mayo, katsuobushi and Japanese BBQ sauce to wrap things with a smoky flavour.

Plank Sourdough Pizza’s first restaurant has been a real hit in Manilla and we hope to be serving more great sourdough pizzas to our Manilla customers soon.
